Things to Do This Weekend 6/9 – 6/10 Edition  

June, June, June! Summer’s a’coming folks! Horrah! While you’re waiting, on go out and enjoy all that PDX has to offer.

As always this weekend’s selections include both indoor and outdoor options with an eye towards frugal kid friendly fun. Too far away? Check your local stores, farmer’s markets, libraries, community centers and parks departments for more accessible activities.

Beaverton Farmers Market - Saturday adjacent to Beaverton City Park and the Beaverton Public Library from 8am to 1pm. Featuring Rhythm Dogs.

Hillsboro Farmers Market - Saturday located on Main Street between 1st and 3rd Avenue, one block northwest of the Third Avenue MAX station and is open from 8am to 1:30pm. Featuring Jon Koonce, Healthy Kids Day and Hillsboro Soccer Club.

Splish - Splash!  Saturday 10am at the Tanasbourne Store. “Please join Miss Gioia for stories, crafts and a light snack!” Free.

Powell’s Kids' Storytime Join us every Saturday in May at 11am. All ages. Free.

REI Used Gear Sale Saturday at the Hillsboro and Clackamas REI Stores. “Members save big on used, but useful merchandise. Items are one-of-a-kind; come early for the best selection. All sales are final.”

Brick and Little Builders Saturday at the Beaverton Main Library from 10:30am to 11:30am. “This is a drop-in program where kids ages 3-5 can play with Duplo® blocks and kids ages 6-11 can play with LEGOs®. Ages 3-11 with their adults. No registration required.” 

Jass Two Plus One Saturday at the Beaverton Main Library from 2pm to 3pm. The jazz trio, Jass Two Plus One, will bring you the romance and adventure of 1920’s and 1930’s Jazz. It was a vibrant, robust, era filled with social changes, technology and events which would change America. All ages welcome.

Game Day – Saturday at the Hillsboro Main Library from 2:30pm to 4:30pm. “Join us for board games and electronic games for adults, teens, and children of all ages. Bring your family and friends and have fun.” 

Public Tour - European Art Saturday, 3pm to 4pm “Explore the Museum with a docent skilled in bringing art to life.” Tours are free for members or with Museum admission, and free for children age 17 and younger.

Hillsboro Farmers Market - Sunday located at the parking area between Orenco Station Parkway and NE 61st Avenue, just off Cornell Road and within walking distance of the Orenco MAX stop and open from 10am to 2pm.

Crafty Underdog - Sunday at the Mission Theater from 11am to 5pm.  “Come out for a little local shopping, thanks to Portland's finest Artisans and Crafters!” Enjoy live music & movies, free admission and food and drinks for purchase at the Mission.

Dairy Farmers of Oregon Milk Carton Races Westmoreland Park Sunday from 11am to 3pm.  “A memorable day for participants and spectators alike, children and adults race and show off their handmade boats that float only by means of recycled milk cartons and jugs. Creatively crafted watercraft will compete in five categories for the coveted Best in Show milk can trophy.”

Family & Public Tour every Sunday in May 12:30pm to 1:30pm and 3pm to 4pm. “Bring your family to explore the Museum with a docent skilled at engaging visitors of all ages.” Tours are free for members or with Museum admission, and free for children age 17 and younger.
