Recipe ReWind Plus Five Flavorful Tips!

Welcome to my first edition of Recipe ReWind....
Because some recipes bear repeating I have decided to start reposting my favorites every Wednesday along with the tips and variations I have discovered to make them more flexible and frugal friendly.
Here is a link today’s recipe Baked Rice.

Five Flavorful Tips

Most folks make their rice plain, forgetting that a few additions can really make a big difference at meal time. Next time you make rice (baked or otherwise) consider the following:

  • Build your own blend. Try mixing a scoop of brown rice into your regular white for a nutty boost. 1 brown to 3 white is a house favorite. Check out your local bulk food section for other choices.
  • Herb or spice it up. Add up to a tablespoon of dried herbs or a teaspoon of spices will enhance rice's natural flavor without overpowering it. Try your favorite spice mix or keep it simple with parsley, basil or cumin.
  • Substitute stock or juice for some or all of the liquid. Chicken and orange are classic flavors.
  • Add a food group. During the last 10 minutes or so of baking or even while the rice is cooling on the counter stir in your favorite vegetable or fruit. Frozen peas, fresh greens, diced apple and raisins are popular choices.
  • Make it a meal. Mix in one to two cups of protein to transform your rice to a belly filling bowl full. Chopped nuts, grated cheese, leftover cooked bird and canned tuna are all easy options.

Frugally yours-
